EscapadeCon:Slashing, Shipping, Transforming Media

Luminosity’s vids are eclectic in nature with incredible style. She loves to experiment, especially with old movies, which she sees as a treasure trove of awesome. She has a weakness for art rock like Queens of the Stone Age or Radiohead, but is amenable to almost anything: instrumentals, classical, spoken word, and if something works for the source, she’ll always give it a try.

She’s good to go for slash, het, gen, meta, documentary, nature shows, comedy, tragedy, lyrical mood pieces, trippy stuff. When you vid like Luminosity, you can do almost anything.

How it will work:

You make a generous donation to Escapadecon, helping to make sure our hotel gets paid this year, and helping us begin to lay the foundation for the next 27 years. You feel wonderful for helping out a great fan-centric con that has been around for longer than some of its attendees have been alive, and that has committed remain a part of the fabric of fandom for as long as someone continues to hold the space for women-run, slash-centric shipper cons that are by the fans, for the fans, and about the fans.

After Escapade, you and Luminosity will discuss your vid: the fandom, your pairings or polys (if applicable), the themes you care about, songs you’re thinking of, ideas you have, etc. Then she’ll create your vid. Simple and filled with awesome, yeah?! Luminosity will finish your vid by late May/early June 2017, so she’ll have plenty of time to do her homework and you’ll have a little time to anticipate the result.

(*Your fannish options are almost limitless: she’s not vidding MCU movies at present, but she is loving Marvel TV like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage. And the only fandom she has broken up with is Supernatural, so, you know, every other TV show in the world.

Scholarship Fund and Scholarship Nominations

1. Contribute to the Scholarship Fund

The Escapade scholarship works because it’s like the rest of Escapade: you make it work. Your contributions have supported many attendees over the years, from maintainers of fannish archives, lists, and communities to fanfic writers and vidders. Scholarships introduce new fans to Escapade, and bring back long-time attendees who may have fallen on hard times.

Any amount you can give, from $10 to $10,000, helps tremendously. It helps attendees who couldn’t otherwise make it; it helps programming, because scholarship recipients volunteer and co-moderate panels; it helps your karma. As always, 100% of your contributions go directly to recipient expenses like airfare, hotel, and food expenses, if needed.

2. Nominate a Potential Scholarship Recipient

Now it’s time to check the registration list at the web site, and consider who isn’t on it. Are they skipping due to unforeseen financial stresses? It’s time to think about a fan who has never been to Escapade but who you know might love it.

In the same way you create the scholarship fund through donations, you create the scholarship recipients through nominating people. Escapade Crowdfunding Campaign

In 27 years, the costs of producing Escapade have risen further and faster than the cost of membership (+861% expenses vs. +286% income). In order to keep the convention running and the reg fee affordable, we’re launching a crowdfunding campaign in January. We plan to reach out to current and past members, but also hope to reach people who’ve never attended or who would like to attend one day and want to be a part of keeping alive Escapade’s celebration of fans, slash fandom, and fanworks.
