Meta write-in
- How Do Vids Work? Let’s talk about what makes a slash vid work. Obviously some vids are Bring Your Own Feels — they work because of pre-existing emotional attachments: set our boys (or girls) to a song we love and we’re happy. But what are the things that a vidder does that make a vid especially compelling? What makes a vid memorable (in a good way)? What distinguishes the vids that inspire deep love, the ones we watch over and and over and want to make all our friends watch, from the vids we enjoy once and then forget? Let’s talk about these things with reference to a couple of specific vids (chosen ahead of time with input from likely attendees), see what strategies, commonalities, and differences we can identify, and then open up discussion to additional favorites from the audience. Leaders: here’s luck and renenet”
- An Archive for Meta: Why are there so few archives for meta? (What archives are there?) Should AO3 encourage meta like it encourages art and vids? Is meta a “fanwork?” Share your favorite meta articles & blog posts, talk about what could work and what doesn’t for a meta-focused archive.
Fandom-specific write-in
- DCU Comics Timeline: Try to sort out what-happened-when, what’s been retconned away, what fanon has decided to add or ignore. Bring examples of the core elements you think are essential to the DCUverse and we’ll try to put them in some kind of order. Don’t bother bringing a pocket fan; the handwaving should cool the whole building.
- Burn Notice: no respect at all. Matt Nix has done the impossible: kept a guy/girl relationship fresh and hot for years of TV shoot ‘em up, and shown us vivid and hilarious jealousy between the girlfriend and the boyfriend (okay, best friend). They even added a new hot guy in the 4th season? So why, in the hell doesn’t this show have a more active fandom? Seriously
Tech/Workshop write-in
- Writing Good Prompts: What to include, what to leave out, what to expect from the resulting fic, if any. (Special bonus Ghost Soup panel.)
- The Escapade Genius Lounge — complete with volunteer smart/techie people and ignorant folks willing to cop to that and learn–and soda!
Alt Prog/Video write-in
- I’d love to see some discussion of the current season of Glee, but I don’t have a pithy title or a focus for a panel, and I’m not even sure I want something as formal as a panel. I just want people to commiserate with. Possibly this is a room party thing, but hey, I’m throwing it out there.
- Bra shop visit!
