I'm so sick of living for other people, took meeting you to realize

And we're back to Monday again! Yesterday ended up being a mostly chill day. We played a game at noon with Jess' friends, but the afternoon got cancelled on account of our DM having a really bad cold. Which honestly was okay. The game would have been super fun, but the rest was nice too.
So, I got the "Too Good to Go" app, which will put up restaurants in the area that sell "suprise packages." Mostly leftover food, or little meals for cheap. They're usually worth about $18, and sell for $6.99. I've used it a couple of times to gread effect, and decided to do it again. We tried a food truck called "Y'all Hungry."
It was the sketchiest food truck in existence, but the food was really good. I think they're just starting out, so theirs was $4.99 a portion. For that $4.99, you got an enormous pulled pork sandwich with this slightly spicy bbq sauce that I loved. Baked beans and corn on the cob, a piece of cornbread and a bottle of water. Not half bad.
Today, I ordered an IKEA bag. Last time I did IKEA, I got a shitton of chocolate, so this should be interesting. I wanted to go over there anyway to look at a cabinet that might work as a pantry for us. I need to see the actual size, to see if it'll fit all the shit that currently lives on our counters. It's called the Skruvby. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/skruvby-storage-combination-black-blue-s89561337/
I think it might be enough, and I know I can put together IKEA furniture. I had 7 years to practice that shit.
Tomorrow is farmer's market! Apparently the first raspberries have arrived--excite! I will get my little bag and go find some things!
First, though. Monday. It's going to be super busy, I have no doubt. But on the plus side, I have extra strong Tim Horton's Dark Roast coffee. (Good lord Canada, you okay? This shit is straight motor oil-I love it, but wow.)
And on that note, I'm going to hop off and go get myself together. Everyone have a stellar Monday!

Neurodivergent reward cycle
Jun. 8th, 2025 07:33 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
My brain reward cycle is fucked, and the longer I think about it, the more I recognize that it's always been this way.
Case in point: I performed recently after preparing for 5 months.
My mother said, "It went well! That must feel good."
Me: "..."
It didn't. It never really does, not unless someone else gives me external validation.
Whenever I do something hard, my brain's response is, "Well, I did it, so how hard could it have been?"
This applies to excelling academically (which I have done frequently), excelling at my job (which I have done on occasion), every type of performance I've ever undertaken (and there have been a lot), every form of art/craft I've ever done (writing, knitting, crocheting, etc.), and helping friends.
Mostly I just feel relief that it's over, and my brain isn't going to give me the constant round of "You should work on [thing]!" anymore. Nah, the shoulds will switch to something else, but at least it'll be new at first.

It's Sunday! Today shall be a day for relaxing and having a couple of games. It should be a lot of fun, if the everyone is up to play.
Yesterday was a long day! I had my shower and then we took Mao down to be cremated. The dude at the cremation place was SUPER nice. I was really pleased that I went with them. After it was done, I felt good that we'd finally gotten him taken care of. We'll be able to pick him up on Wednesday. (We'll probably have to wait til Saturday. I can pick him up in the morning before I head out for Pride.)
Then, we came back and piddled around until it was time to go bowling. The alley is very nice, and it was good to see friends, but since I wasn't willing to bowl with my back, it wasn't very engaging. It was all fine, though. The food was good, and we got out for a bit. We also stopped at Trader Joes on the way back, and bought way too much shit. Today will be a grazing day. We all have leftover food, so we're just going to eat what we've got.
The fridge is full, so we all better get cracking.
I say shit, but most of it is stuff for lunch for Jess and I. Tomorrow, we need to get back to cooking like a normal person rather than takeout.
And now, I'm going to get myself together and forage for breakfast. Everyone have an amazing Sunday!

Anyone have recipes that use very small amounts of okra? I'm talking two or three okra. My okra plants are producing, but they're still small so I'm only getting a two or three every couple of days.
If you have recipes that use large amounts of okra, I'll take those too, but won't have a chance to try them until about August. Per LSU ag extension the heat puts the okra plants into overdrive and I'll have beaucoup then.

Child, take your dark memories like seeds, and plant them far from here

It's Saturday!
Half of Fridays plans got cancelled on account of not giving a fuck. We are still new computerless and we didn't make it to the steak house. Instead we went to a steak and sushi buffet. It was okay--standard buffet fare, though the abundance of seafood was very good. I had crab legs, stone crab claws, plus lobster tail and a pretty credible NY strip steak. Also some pretty good sushi. All that for $36 sounds pretty good to me.
One thing that did not get scrapped was my hair. It's not exactly what the picture showed, but I love it. It's bright and happy and fun and it makes me feel good. Picture below the cut.

I'm going to go grab a shower and wash it out for the first time, so we'll see how much the tub looks like I slaughtered a muppet.
Today, we take Mao to be cremated. He's waited a long time, so it's good that we're finally doing it.
Then later, we have bowling with the work crew, which should be fun.
Tomorrow is all games all the time which will be fun. Okay, gonna go shower! Everyone have a perfect Saturday!

Recommendation: love is an affliction by WerewolvesAreReal, ST:TOS Hanahaki Disease
Jun. 7th, 2025 12:15 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I deeply enjoyed reading a Star Trek: The Original Series story in which Hanahaki is nonfatal and limited to Vulcans. I enjoyed it all the more because I didn't read the tags beyond noting that it's General Audiences and No Warnings Apply. Having now read the tags and finished the story, which ends hopefully, I recommend that you give the story a try if the idea of Spock coughing up flowers of unrequited love appeals to you -- but page down and skip the tags, unless there are common pairings in the fandom that you need to avoid.
