Now that you've registered for Escapade 36 and made your hotel reservation (you have, haven't you??), and if you haven't, here's all you need to know about registration and hotel:

We always have ideas, but we want Escapade programming to reflect what YOU'RE interested in talking about.

Best way to let us know what you want is to head over and make panel suggestions! Everything is welcome, from the Golden Oldies to the Newest Shiny, from plain old squee to serious thinky things.

If you're one of those people who loves to bounce ideas off of other folks, we will be having panel submission brainstorming parties, dates and times TBD.

In-Person Escapade 36 Registration and Hotel info is live!

Hey Escapaders!

We’re now just six months out from the next in-person Escapade, and I know many of you have been excited to book your hotel and register for the convention. The wait is over!

To register for the convention:

1. Start by going to https://escapadecon.net/shop/register-for-in-person-escapade-2026/

2. After making your payment, you should be taken to a page to enter your badge name and other information. If you aren’t, try going to https://escapadecon.net/escapade-36-registration-in-person/ and filling out the form there.

That’s it!

If you’ve already registered for the convention, you should be in our system. Unfortunately, you can’t easily pull up the information from the form you submitted (this is something we are working on fixing) but if you want to re-submit your information, you can go to https://escapadecon.net/update-your-registration-info/.

To book your hotel room:

1. Start at our special magic link: https://www.hilton.com/en/attend-my-event/laxabes-rcg-5fcb641f-16e7-47bb-b537-45ad15911160/

2. Click “Book a Room”.

3 .At the top of the page it takes you to, select the dates you want. It will default to a six night stay, so it’s important to change this to the actual dates you want! Make sure you also choose the right number of guests for your room.

4. Choose the room type you want, enter your information, and you’re all set!

Remember, if you book with our link, you get many benefits, including discounted parking ($20 per night versus $60 per night!), a refund of the mandatory $12.92 per night tax, and a reduced deposit (capped at $250 for the whole stay). Plus, you support Escapade! If you have any trouble using the link above, please let us know ASAP.

Pro Tip:

It’s recommended to come in on or before Thursday night and leave no earlier than Sunday if you want to experience the full convention. We might have some fun activities for early birds who get there on Tuesday or Wednesday, too! And of course, if you want to stay for the Tired Puppy Pile party, you may want to wait until Monday to head out…

[In-Person Escapade 35] Unofficial panels, Meetups, and DIYs, Oh My!

Hey there Escapaders! Got a hankering to talk about something that didn’t make it onto the schedule? “Unofficial” panels and “Meetups” are a long-standing tradition for Escapade, and we’ve left space for them!

“Unofficial” Panels and Meetups:

Want to create your own in-person meetup or unofficial panel? Here’s what to do:

Go to the Con Suite and find an open slot under “Redondo” on the Master Schedule
Write your panel name in the open slot
Then add your panel name to the schedules on every panel room door
Use our big neon post-its to advertise your panel on all panel room doors
We also have signs you can post and carry around.
Don’t forget to mention your panel on the Escapade 35 Discord; just make sure it’s clear it’s in-person, and where and when it will take place.

“DIY” panels held online during the convention:

Escapade 35 is an in-person convention, but we’re happy to provide a space for anyone to host their own online “DIY” panels during the con. Keep an eye on the Escapade 35 Discord to learn where and when these virtual panels will be taking place. Please note that Escapade staff will NOT be providing tech support for these DIY online panels; these are strictly Do-It-Yourself in every aspect. Want to create your own online DIY panel? Instructions are in place on the Discord for how to set up your panel online.

What's a Discord?

Discord is an app that allows people to communicate by text online. Discord can be counterintuitive at first, but many attendees appreciate the IRC-like interface once they settle in.

Our “Forever” Escapade Discord server is open year-round and is free to join. Come see what we’re up to! If you would like access to the "Forever" Escapade server please send us an email at info@escapadecon.net.

If you paid for a membership to Escapade 35, or if you donated at least $20 to Escapade in the past six months, you will also receive a special link for the Exclusive Escapade 35 Discord. This link will be sent by email shortly before the convention. This exclusive Discord is tailored for Escapade 35, with channels for each panel, a 24-hour vid stream, and a live vid stream during the Vid Show. This is not a virtual convention, but rather a benefit designed for Escapade 35 attendees that can also be accessed by donating non-attendees.

[In-Person Escapade 35] More Good Hotel News!

Hey Escapaders!

If you booked a King Suite room, your rate may have gone DOWN! Due to an error in the hotel reservation system, some people who booked King Suites for Friday or Saturday nights were charged $10 more per night than they should have been. The hotel has painstakingly fixed all the incorrect rates, so if you booked a King Suite for Friday and Saturday, your total rate may have gone down by as much as $23! To see if your rate went down, check your original email confirmation, then log in to Hilton and compare the total rate now listed on your reservation. If your rate hasn’t changed, then you were booked at the correct amount in the first place. If you booked a different type of room (for example, a Twin Queen), your rate was correct and should be unaffected.

IN-PERSON ESCAPADE 35: Parking News

Good news for people who need to park at the hotel but aren’t planning on staying over! The day rate is only $15 a day. When you arrive at the convention, park in the garage lot beneath the hotel. You’ll grab a ticket when entering. Take the ticket to the front desk when you arrive, explain that you’re with Escapade and you need the day rate parking, and they will take care of you. If you’re planning on staying late after the dance or vid show, you may wish to double check the time when “day rate” becomes “overnight”. (Escapade’s overnight rate is $20.)

[IN-PERSON ESCAPADE 35] Sell Yourself to Help Escapade!

One of the funnest and funniest events of Escapade is the art auction on Sunday morning. If you’d like to help support Escapade, consider Selling a Service at the auction! There are all kinds of creative options, such as: writing a fanfic, drawing fanart, beta/editing services, a podfic reading, sketching a comic, making a fanvid, or other fun ideas. [In-Person Escapade 35] Update On the Fire Situation in Los Angeles as it affects the convention

Dear friends,

The Concom has been monitoring the LA fires and their possible impact on the con. Of the 5 fires that started last week, 3 have 100% containment. The Palisades fire has 14% containment and the Eaton fire has 33% containment.

We know that many of you are from outside fire country. These containment percentages are VERY GOOD NEWS.

There is a possibility of additional fires this week. Los Angeles County comprises 4,083 square miles, 88 incorporated cities, and if it were a state, would have a population greater than 40 other states*. Even when a fire is "in the same county", it can still be very far from Escapade. The Palisades fire is about 20 miles from LAX and the con hotel. The Eaton fire is about 30 miles from them. To put this in perspective, wildfires are usually measured in acres, not miles, and there’s 640 acres in 1 square mile.

Based on previous fires, Concom does not anticipate the current fires will directly impact the con hotel or con area. There may be poor air quality from smoke. We will likely use the Corsi-Rosenthal air purifiers we have used at Escapade 34 and Escapade 33.

Concom will continue monitoring the situation. While slashy fun is our passion, safety is our priority.

ART SHOW

Consider this your invitation to display and/or sell your works of art in the Escapade Art Show – an exhibition showcasing the diverse array of artwork prepared by our artists/craftspeople. A glorious place where Escapade attendees can ‘ooh’ and ‘ahh’ over your works, as well as bid upon them. Before the con, please register your artwork here and bring it during the con on Friday between 1-2pm to the Del Mar Conference Room. Escapade takes a 10% commission on art sales.

ART AND CHARITY AUCTION
Sunday morning, 9:30am to 11am, Laguna/Malibu Conference Rooms

If your artwork gets three bids or more at the Art Show, then we send it to be lovingly auctioned off to the highest bidder at the Escapade Art and Charity Auction on Sunday.

You can choose for profits to go to yourself, Charity (this year it is the Santa Barbara Rescue Mission), or to Escapade. Escapade takes a 10% commission on art sales.

Here’s what’s new New(ish) at Escapade 35

Are you getting excited yet? We are very excited! Here’s some of the new(ish) things to look forward to this year.

Returning for its second year - the quiet room. This is a room open during consuite hours for people to lay down, sit, or relax in a quiet area.

Here for the first time ever at In-Person Escapade and present for the second time if you count the Online Con, we’ll have a 24/7 vid stream room on the Escapade Discord. The online crowd loved it so much, we had to bring it out to the In-Person event. We’ll have fan vids playing all time just for your.

New to Escapade this year is the Night Market! Come Thursday Night to pick up your badge, and shop around a little. People vending at the Night Market will have early access to the room to set up and register early as an extra perk.

Also, are you local? Planning on driving to Escapade but not spending the night at the hotel?

Please let us know in advance! We can get you the discounted parking rate ($20 per day) instead of the new rate ($60 per day).

[In-Person Escapade 35] A Little Bad News and A Lot of Good News

Hello, friends!

We have great news for you further down, but first, important hotel stuff! The bad news is that the hotel broke our group code for several days. Any reservations made during that time won’t count toward our contracted total. If we don’t reach our total, it could mean big fines for the con.

The good news is, it’s fairly easy for us to change your room to the group rate: all we need is the first and last name your reservation was booked under, and we can arrange for the hotel to switch you over.

Even if our rate may seem higher than the rate you booked, we confirmed with the hotel that it’s probably not. We negotiated some incredible concessions for our rate:

All reservations (including ours) have $16 per night added to them upon check-in. This is a hospitality tax implemented by the city of L.A. and is not reflected in the website rates. However, reservations booked through our group rate will have this secret extra charge removed upon check out. So please add $16 per night to the rate you reserved when comparing it to our group rate.
Many of you were concerned about the high deposit for incidentals pre-authorized on your credit or debit card last year. We initially negotiated a $250 cap on this for the whole stay, but now the hotel has agreed to waive the deposit entirely for rooms booked under our group code this year.
Regular parking cost at the hotel is going up this year to $60 per night. For rooms booked under our rate this year, it’s only $20 per night. If you’re planning on bringing a car, you’ll want your room booked under our rate. (Fair warning, part of the deal to get the deposit waived means you’ll pay the parking bill upfront as a separate charge from the room.)
Rooms booked under our group code are cancellable until the night before the convention. Other rates generally don’t have this benefit.

If you want your reservation under the group rate, you can reply to this email with the name used to reserve the room and we’ll take care of it for you.

You can also simply cancel your reservation and re-book online now that our group code CESRCG is working again. However, you may have difficulty if you try to call directly, since the rep likely handles many hotels and won’t have been briefed on the specifics of our situation. The best way is to either handle it online, or let us handle it on your behalf.
