Sorry for the delay in posting this list! Getting back to work got pret-ty worky for a while there.
Here are the slashy old movies we talked about at Friday's panel, "The Sweet Smell of Slash". It includes m/m and f/f, a few OT3s, plus a couple-few scattered in there that are more canon-gay or queer than slashy per se.
In case the clips piqued your interest, the ones I showed were from Blazing Saddles, Test Pilot, and Trapeze; and the "show me yours I'll show you mine" pistol scene we acted out was from Red River.
Some of the movies on the list have stories on AO3--and maybe you'll want to watch a lot and write some more!
Enjoy!

Date: Mar. 13th, 2015 03:46 am (UTC)Did anyone bring up the (possibly not true?) story about William Wyler taking Charlton Heston aside and asking him to play it as though Ben-Hur and Masala were lovers, but, "Don't tell Steve because he would freak," then went to Stephen Boyd with the same message but, "For God's sake don't tell Chuck!" I always loved that story!
Also - did cartoons come up? Bugs was always doing drag and Elmer fell (hard) for it every time!
I really wish I could have been there - sounds like a fun panel!

Date: Mar. 17th, 2015 01:50 am (UTC)Other classic old movies with slashy/queer vibes
Date: Oct. 22nd, 2017 07:12 am (UTC)"Captain Blood" - Peter Blood/Jeremy Pitt.
"The Time of Your Life" - Joe (Cagney)/Nick (Bendix).
"Midsummer Night's Dream" (1935) - Nick Bottom/Francis Flute.
"As You Like It" (1936) - cross-dressing Shakespeare. What else needs to be said? Also Rosalind/Celia.
"Wuthering Heights" (1939) - Heathcliff/Cathy/Edgar.
"Inherit the Wind" (1960) - Sarah Brady/Matthew Brady/Henry Drummond, Henry Drummond/E. K. Hornbeck.
"Shall We Dance" (1937) - a couple. Arthur Miller/Jeffrey Baird, Arthur Miller/'Charlie' his friend.
"Gunga Din" - Ballantine/MacChesney/Cutter OT3
"Holiday" (1938) - Linda Seton/Johnny Case/Ned Seton.
"The Philadelphia Story" - CK Dexter Haven/Tracy Lord/Mike Connor.
"Pot O' Gold" (1941) - Horace Heidt/Willie McCorkle.
"Steel Magnolias" - more 70s, but you KNOW Claire & Ouiser are in love.
"The Boyfriend" (1971) - Maisie/Fay, Percy/Alphonse.
"Midnight" (1939) - Jacques Picot/Marcel Renaud (at least on Marcel's part).
"The Farmer's Daughter" - strong indications of established OT3 of Agatha Morley/Mr. Morley (now dead)/Joseph Clancey (butler).
