Didn’t we all have a terrific weekend at Escapade? I know I did.

Still, there can be things that might be done differently or better. If

you didn’t get a chance to fill out a paper comment form on Sunday

afternoon, or had to leave before then, the online comments form is up

and running, and we really want to know what you thought went well, what

didn’t and what might be done differently.

Los Angeles Slash Fandom meetup group

We talk a lot about ways to get fresh blood into Escapade, and I got the idea to start not just a local meetup but a Meetup.com meetup. I know there are plenty of mailing lists and lj/dw coms devoted to organizing the same kind of local fan get together in various places, but Meetup.com tends to reach a broader crowd. In the Bay Area, I've found it very effective for reaching lurkers, anime fans, or people who are mostly on Tumblr and who won't find out about things like Escapade via their current social networks. I was thinking of it as an experiment for next year, but at least one person was able to come to Escapade this year with only a week or two of notice, so I'd say the experiment is a success.

I'd love to see fans in the LA area start using the group. I've paid the first six months. I'm hoping some of you will schedule a few public meetups in coffee shops. It's a great way to make connections with fans you wouldn't have otherwise run into. Good for Escapade, good for our social lives, and a lot of fun.

Dance Party playlist

This year, Escapade took a leaf out of VividCon's book and added vids and dancing to the Friday night party. jetpack_monkey and I did the playlist, but I never did find the time to print out a sign for the party room. Doh! Next year! Next year! To make things not totally crazy for ourselves we decreed that there would be no premieres and no suggestions this year—which means that most of these vids are already up and available online for your viewing pleasure. Yay! (Next year, we'd like to start a lot earlier and let you suggest vids. Premieres are better left for the main show on Saturday night though.)

Our original idea was to do two sets with a small intermission between them. When we found out that Charlotte wanted to surprise Megan with birthday cake, we decided that putting the birthday celebration between the two halves would make the most sense. Predictably, things did not work out quite as planned. If you think you spotted some repeated vids, you are exactly right: we played the beginning of disc 2 until the cake was brought in, then went back to disc 1, then all of disc 2.
